DAVID/DAVID, 2009 - PRESENT

David/David is a collaborative practice I share with fellow artist, David Spooner. We both have the same name of 'David'. Since 2009, we have collaborated on projects that often involve physical and mental endurance challenges. We capture our shared experiences through drawings, paintings, writing and video and present them alongside each other as art objects. Below is a selection of our projects.

DAVID/DAVID, 31ST OF NOVEMBER, 2016

David Spooner and I wrote a novel in one month (November, 2014) called '31st of November'. We were participating in 'Novel In November', an international event that challenges authors to write a novel of 50,000 words within a month. Our novel was 100 thousand words because we are two people and did 50 000 words each. Over the following 2 years, we edited and illustrated it with 60 colour drawings in felt pen. We launched '31st of November' in October 2016 at Offsite: Dhanamenta 2, The Walls, Miami, Gold Coast.

DAVID/DAVID, WALKS, 2012 - PRESENT

David Spooner and I have attempted multiple long distance walks which we have documented by making videos along the way. Some of the walks have included traversing the abandoned railway line between Lismore and Byron Bay, NSW by foot; multiple missions attempting to walk from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, QLD; and from Hiroshima to Fukuoka, Japan via Yamaguchi over a 10 day period.

DAVID/DAVID, HORSE PAINTINGS, 2014

David Spooner and I did a number of collaborative 'plein air' paintings of local Lismore horses in 2014. Exhibited at Serpentine Gallery, Lismore and Woolloongabba Art Gallery, Brisbane in 2014.

DAVID/DAVID, PORTRAITS, 2013

Over the course of a 2013, David Spooner and I painted 52 portraits of each other on the same canvas (1 per week). We divided the canvases down the middle with a painted line and painted each other simultaneously. They were exhibited at The Walls, Miami; The Hold Artspace, Brisbane; and Serpentine Gallery, Lismore.

THE WANDERING ROOM, 2008 - PRESENT

Together with Angela Rossitto I run The Wandering Room artist run initiative which we began with Sarah Werkmeister in 2008. Rather than occupying a single fixed site, The Wandering Room exists as a concept that has roamed nomadically, occupying temporary spaces in a variety of gallery and offsite locations.

The group has worked as artist collaborators, project devisors and program curators.  Activities have included residencies in Brisbane and overseas, exhibitions in regional Queensland and interstate in both gallery and ‘beyond the gallery’ contexts.

See below for a selection of projects.

David Creed, Angela Rossitto and Sarah Werkmeister, 'The Wandering Room is a Magical Place', 2013, acrylic, mirror, marble, goggles. For Sydney Contemporary Art Fair, 2013, The Wandering Room devised 'The Wandering Room is a Magical Place', which skews perceptions, making the audience engage with objects that must be placed on one's head as they walk around the art fair.

The Wandering Room, Closer, 2011. The Wandering Room had a program of exhibitions in an actual dollhouse which we converted into a miniature gallery. Closer was a large group show of small scale works in various media from predominantly Brisbane-based emerging artists.
